Originally built in 1903 for the First Baptist Church, the building was bought in 1924 by Capt. W. C. Tyrrell and donated to the city for use as a library.

It is a unique Texas example of the style of Henry Hobson Richardson's Romanesque Revival.

Tyrrell Library Website

The Tyrrell Historical Library is a unique library in that it collects and preserves the history of the greater Beaumont area, which includes the history of southeast Texas. The library as a historical research repository was established in 1975. Restoration of the library building began in 1989 and was completed in July of 1990.
