The Cathedral of Trier is the oldest bishop church in Germany. In the core it goes back to a Roman basilica that was built from 326 by the Roman emperor Constantine the Great. In the 11th century the cathedral received its current west façade, which represents the Salic style.
The ceiling of the western apse is built in 1668 in baroque style. Restoration in 1972-1973 by Menna, Würzburg.
