Verde Flat Cemetery AKA Vulture City Pioneer Cemetery. Circa 1870. This historic piece of land gets little notice and few visitors although it is only 1/4 mile from Vulture City Mine.

According to some, there are some 200 graves here, many of them unmarked. There are some (approx. 100)that are marked with white crosses and rocks. (Boy Scouts work on that project every few years. Thank you, Scouts.) Few have the names of those that reside there.

The cemetery is enclosed by a fence with a main gate at the north end. The cemetery is fairly well visited as the main paths were well worn. Another 100 internments are unmarked and scattered throughout the enclosure. Reading the names of the marked graves, most are male - maybe miners from the Vulture Mine. Perhaps 10% of the burials are female and children.
