VFW Post 3656 meets in a building on the west side of Bristow. Adjacent to their meeting house, they maintain a large war memorial area with numerous pieces of military equipment, as well as some specific memorials.
This is a 3 inch 50MM Deck Gun. Many varieties of the 3" 50 caliber gun have been used over the year beginning as early as 1900. The Model number of this particular gun is not known. In WWII, the Mark 10, 17, 18 and 20 models were the primary gun armament on destroyers, patrol frigates, submarine chasers, minesweepers and some fleet submarines. The Mark 21 was the standard deck gun on submarines launched in 1935 to 1942, later to be replaced with 4" and 5" guns. [Information taken from Wikipedia].
Alongside this gun is a marble slab dedicated to Aviation Mate Clifford Murl Satterfield, U.S. Navy, who was killed in action in the South Pacific April 29, 1944.
