Píše se rok 1936. Mladý ceský boxerský šampión Vilda Jakub (M. Vašut) kvuli nepochopitelnému zásahu svého trenéra Krakowského (J. Vinklár) prohraje v Berlíne zápas s nemeckým mistrem Kurtem Schallerem (J. Nedorost). Svetový tisk zpochybní výsledek souboje a Nemci, kterí potrebují získat prestiž pro nastupující nacistický stát, jsou nuceni nastoupit k novému zápasu v Praze. Snaží se Jakuba zastrašit i podplatit, využívají dokonce Schallerovu prítelkyni, filmovou hvezdu Emu Gabrielovou (E. Balzerová), aby Vildu odradila od vítezství. Vilda však jde tvrde za svým cílem uhájit národní a sportovní cest. Dusledky ovšem nedokáže domyslet…
