You may think this is a strange place for a wildlife area as you drive past a prison, detention center, firing range, school admin buildings and multiple bail bond businesses but once you pass these, you will be in another world. As you enter the southern entrance of the Rima Ridge Unit, the first thing you will see is a very lovely picnic area which includes picnic tables as well as a pavilion where you can also enjoy fishing and kayaking in Indian Lake. If hiking is your interest, take a walk along the very easy Buncombe Hill trail (there was no hill that I noticed!) and check out the interpretive signs which will provide you with a history of the area.

Consisting primarily of pine flatwoods, hardwood swamps and hardwood hammocks, Rima Ridge was significantly affected by fires in 1998 and today is a tribute to ongoing restoration.
