Construction of the Victorian Classical style Courthouse began in 1884 and opened on 6 April 1886, this being the fourth courthouse to be erected in Young. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick with the main feature of the facade is a double height portico with Ionic columns, topped by a pediment displaying the coat of arms. During the years prior to 1925 the courthouse was used only twice a year for circuit court cases after which the courthouse became part of Young's high school being used as the school's assembly hall
