"Near the top is a waist-length portrait of Houston facing forward, with a document in his proper left hand. Below and to the side, Houston is depicted in profile, lunging forward with a sword in his proper left hand. At the bottom, dressed as a frontiersman, Houston rides a galloping horse. The sculpture is mounted on a tapered base composed of large pebbles set in concrete."
