This is a multi-slat, extruded aluminium slat bench about 1.8 metres long. It is set beside the brick-paved walkway from Manly Beach to Shelly Beach, on Sydney's northern beaches. The backrest slats and the aluminium slats of the seat are held in place by being screwed from behind and captured on the ends by cast aluminium ends. There is no armrests on this bench. Presumably it is anchored in a concrete slab beneath the herring-bone brick pavers.
Unlike most of the other Dedicated Benches on Marine Parade, this has a view along the start of Marine Parade from Manly Beach. The etched, brushed stainless steel plaque is a bit stained/corroded, and is screwed to the brown brick wall of the change rooms with four Phillips/Slotted stainless steel screws. It reads:
GEORGE 'BUSHY' CANAWAY
12-11-1913 ~ 27-08-1974
&
JOYCE CANAWAY
07-06-1914 ~ 18-08-2012

[Bushy would have been involved with the Manly (Surf) Life Saving Club, as in the January 2011 Manly Surf Carnival there was an event titled the 'Bushy Canaway Belt Race'; where the 'old-style' belt and life-saving reel would have been used to show a rescue in the surf. ex-PDF document: 2011 Manly Surf Carnival]
