Klingensmith Park is a large city park on the west side of Bristow, well used for many community events. The park was developed in the mid 1930's as a New Deal project. The park is named for Cpl. Peter Willis Klingensmith (3/19/1895 - 10/24/1918), who was the first Bristow resident to lose his life in World War I. He died on the battlefields in France and is buried in nearby Bristow Cemetery

A granite plaque is mounted on a brick and stone wall at the top of the stairs at the eastern entrance to the park. It reads:

Klingensmith Park
Named in honor of
Pete Klingensmith
The first Bristow man
Killed in World War I
