The plaque reads:

"Huisje Hart - This quaint and small 'cunucu' (countryside-style) house was built in the first half of the 19th century. It was built from coral stone and originally had zinc roofing. In 1825, Reverend Bosch noted in his travelogue that despite the prohibition against building houses near the fort, there was a house at 30 paces from the fort. This observation was surely made in reference to Huisje Hart (Hart's house), which is located just across the street from Fort Zoutman. The current north gallery was built in 1885. The Hart family was the owner of this property in the 20th century and sold it in 2014.

This cunucu house is of great importance due to its historic and architectural value. As one of the oldest houses in Oranjestad, it is highly iconic and unique. The combination of this property, Fort Zoutman, Willem III Tower, and Zoutmanstraat 13 forms the heart of Oranjestad's historical district.
