Aruba is an island and a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the southern Caribbean Sea. Together with Bonaire and Curaçao, Aruba forms a group referred to as the ABC islands. Collectively, Aruba and the other Dutch islands in the Caribbean are often called the Dutch Caribbean.
Our pictures show a bronze sculpture installed in March 2017 in Plaza Padu in central Oranjestad. The sculptural group by local artist Ciro Abath pays tribute to Juan Chabaya Lampe, Rufo Wever and Hubert Boi for for their contribution to the composition of the national anthem
Juan Chabaya Lampe (Padú del Caribe) is an Aruban musician and songwriter. He wrote the music of the walz "Aruba Dushi Tera". The sculpture shows Lampe playing the piano, sitting on the piano bench to the left of the musician Rufo Wever who composed the lyrics of the anthem. Hubert (Lio) Boi stands behind the piano in front of Lamp and Wever.
The chorus of the anthem is written on the back of the piano. It reads (in papiamento):
O, Aruba, dushi tera,
nos baranca tan stima,
Nos amor pa bo t’asina grandi,
cu'n tin nada pa kibr'e.
English translation
Oh Aruba dear country,
our rock so beloved,
our love for you is so strong,
that nothing can destroy it.
The coordinates were taken at the Ciro Abath's sculpture in Plaza Padu.
