On the west side of Bristow, there is a grouping of parks, along the shore of beautiful Lake Massena. The coordinates above are located on Spruce Street, at the end of 6th Avenue. This entrance has beautiful tiered gardens , whose stairs lead to an area of trees, flowers, benches and a walking trail.
To the west, off Country Club Drive, the entrance at N35 49.928 W96 24.155 leads to the city swimming pool, and a very large outdoor amphitheater. To the south of this entrance, an area known as Pirate Action Sports Park has a baseball field, disc golf, tennis courts and playground. There are pavilions and picnic areas throughout the park, with wonderful views of the lake. These park areas are used extensively for community activities and celebrations.
The park was developed between 1935 and 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the National Youth Administration (NYA), and the Works Progress Administration WPA - all New Deal Depression-Era programs. The park is open from 6AM to 11PM, and is named in honor of Pete Klingensmith, the first Bristow man killed in World War I.
