The main entrance to the Berlin Cathedral is guarded by statues of the Four Evangelists, which are the authors attributed with the creation of the four Gospel accounts in the New Testament.

 On the northern side of the stairs, there is a bronze sculpture, showing the Evangelists Matthew and Marc.

Matthew was a former tax collector who was called by Jesus. He became one of the Twelve Apostles.

Marc, the cousin of Barnabas was a follower of Peter and as such an apostolic man.
