"This superb complex was built in the 16th century and sublt, over time, different transformations and extensions.It is located in a large park bordering the rue aux Laines and Petit Sablon.This aristocratic district, located close to the Palais Ducal. did not lack charm.
In 1532, Francoise de Luxembourg built, in the former Heerenstraat, to the right of the Holstraat which led to the ramparts of the city, a late Gothic house, the Petit Hotel d'Egmont.
In 1560, his second son, the famous Lamoral of Egmont, built on the left of the Holstraat, a second hotel in late Gothic style, the Grand Hotel d'Egmont. A Junction House was later built at the Holstraat.
Other extensions, made in particular following the purchase of the east wing (1560-1563) in Italian Renaissance style and some adjacent lands, gradually gave the domain its current size.
In the 18th century, these two properties gradually passed into the hands of the Arenberg family. In 1729, Leopold-Philippe d'Arenberg rented the grand hotel in Egmont, then, in 1737, the small hotel, which he acquired in 1738. After an unsuccessful first attempt in 1745, he also bought the grand hotel in 1754, thus uniting the two properties again.
In the nineteenth century, Duke Prosper-Louis d'Arenberg commissioned important works. He entrusted the work to Tilman-François Suys, one of the most famous architects of the time. He built the merry-go-round in classical style in 1832, then extended the wing known as the "French Quarter", giving the Boar's court its present appearance.
On the night of January 22nd to 23rd, 1892, the palace was ravaged by a fire which made disappear the oldest part of the buildings.
The reconstruction of the right wing of the palace in 1906-1910 was in the same classical style as the left wing built by Suys, giving it its present appearance. "

"Ce superbe complexe fut construit au 16ème siècle et sublt, au fil du temps, differentes transformations et extensions. II est situé dans un vaste pare bordant la rue aux Laines et Ie Petit Sablon. Ce quartier aristocratique, situé a proxirnité immédiate du palais ducal ne manquait pas de charme.
En 1532, Francoise de Luxembourg édifia, dans I'ancienne Heerenstraat, à droite de la Holstraat qui menait aux remparts de la ville, une demeure en style gothique tardif, Ie Petit Hotel d'Egmont.
En 1560, son second fils, Ie celèbre Lamoral d'Egmont, bâtit a gauche de la Holstraat, un second hotel en style gothique tardif, Ie Grand Hotel d'Egmont. Une Maison de Jonction fut construite par la suite à I'emplacement de la Holstraat.
D'autres extensions, realisees notamment suite a I'achat de l'Aile est(1560-1563)en style renaissance italienne et de quelques terrains adjacents, donnerent peu a peu au domaine sa taille actuelle.
Au XVIIIe siècle, ces deux propriétés passèrent progressivement entre les mains de la famille d'Arenberg. En 1729, Léopold-Philippe d'Arenberg loua le grand hôtel d'Egmont, puis, en 1737, le petit hôtel, dont il fit l'acquisition en 1738. Après une première tentative avortée en 1745, il acheta également le grand hôtel en 1754, réunissant ainsi à nouveau les deux propriétés.
Au XIXe siècle, le duc Prosper-Louis d'Arenberg fit procéder à d'importants travaux. Il confia le travail à Tilman-François Suys, un des architectes les plus réputés de l'époque. Celui-ci construisit le manège en style classique en 1832, puis il prolongea l'aile connue sous le nom de « quartier français », donnant ainsi à la cour du Sanglier son aspect actuel.
Dans la nuit du 22 au 23 janvier 1892, le palais fut ravagé par un incendie qui fit disparaître la partie la plus ancienne des bâtiments.
La reconstruction en 1906-1910 de l'aile droite du palais se fit dans le même style classique que l'aile gauche édifiée par Suys, lui conférant sa physionomie actuelle. "
