Au bas de la rue, nous arrivons devant le portail de l’Étang (1541) appelé autrefois "Porte de la Burlière", nom du quartier voisin. En provençal, "burlière" désigne un endroit où l'on s'adonnait à un jeu de boules.
C'est l'une des deux portes qui restent de la fortification du XVIème. On voit encore les ouvertures où passaient les chaînes du pont-levis. Cette porte joua un rôle important au moment des guerres de religion.

At the bottom of the street, we arrive in front of the Pond Gate (1541) formerly called "Porte de la Burlière", the name of the neighbouring district. In Provençal, "burlière" refers to a place where people used to play boules.
It is one of the two remaining gates of the 16th century fortification. We can still see the openings where the drawbridge chains passed through. This door played an important role during the religious wars.
