"The Greenville Public Library is one of two public libraries in the Town of Smithfield, which has a population of 21,500. The Library was incorporated in 1882 for the purpose of providing library services to the Town. The original building was located on the Greenville Common near St. Thomas Church. This library is on the west-bound side of Route 44 at 573 Putnam Pike in Smithfield's historic Greenville village.

The Smithfield Public Library system is a member of the Ocean State Libraries consortium. As a member of OSL, which serves the Rhode Island community by sharing materials, services, and electronic resources, library card holders may check out and return books from and to here and any other OSL member institution in the state.
