"The House of the King of Spain was the home of the bakers' corporation.
After the destruction of the houses of the Grand Place during the bombardment of Brussels by French troops commanded by Marshal Villeroy in August 1695, the house was rebuilt in 1697 as attested by two chronograms.
The first chronogram is located on the entablature that separates the second and the third floor, under the bust of Charles II of Spain:

The baker has drawn here the victorious flags of the trophy
By which Charles, in full glory, triumphs, irresistible.
This chronogram, whose major capitals indicate the year 1697, is an elegiac couplet due to the talent of the poet Petrus van der Borcht.
The second chronogram decorates the arch of the entrance door, just below the bust of Saint Aubert:

Originally, the three bays to the right of the entrance constituted an independent house, the house of Saint-Jacques, accessible at the time by a door located rue au Beurre.
In the eighteenth century, it was called "Backershuys" (House Bakers). "

Ce chronogramme, dont les grandes capitales indiquent l'année 1697, est un distique élégiaque dû au talent du poète Petrus van der Borcht.
Le second chronogramme orne l'arc de la porte d'entrée, juste sous le buste de saint Aubert :

À l'origine, les trois travées à droite de l'entrée constituaient une maison indépendante, la maison de Saint-Jacques, accessible à l'époque par une porte située rue au Beurre.
