Pocátky stálého osídlení se datují do 11. století. Za nejstarší písemnou zmínku o osídlení místa je považován seznam farních kostelu pražské arcidiecéze z roku 1352, kde je uvedena ves Kagrnitz jako poddanská ves panství Rýzmberg.

Název Chabarovice se ustálil koncem 15. století, nemecký název byl Karbitz. V roce 1520 byly Chabarovice zminovány jako mestecko s právy varení piva a výroby sladu. Ferdinand I. Habsburský v zárí 1549 udelil právo užívání mestského znaku (lva na skále mezi dvema branami) a pecetení zeleným voskem.
