The Ortona Lock and Dam is an US Army Corp of Engineers installation located on the Caloosahatchee Canal in Glades County.
In 1934, the locks were dredged by Captain James B. Cox, who worked on the Hoover Dike, with Robert Pierce as engineer. The first lockmaster was Jack O'Day, then Captain Cox, afterward.
Later in 1937 the US Army Corp of Engineers constructed a newer lock with a dam for improved navigational purposes.
