Shamrock was established in 1915 when the Cushing Oilfield was discovered. Soon the town was booming, with thousands of residents, along with raucous lifestyles. The town began to decay a decade later when the oil dried up and the workers moved on. Today, Shamrock has a population of under 100 and is considered a ghost town.

On the east side of town, at the intersection of Dublin and 3rd, a baseball field honoring Eric Ferren has, unfortunately, fallen into disrepair. The weeds are high and no games are played here anymore. The school closed in 1961. Eric Ferren passed away in 1971 and is buried in nearby Shamrock Cemetery.

At roadside, behind home plate, a concrete pillar is topped with a granite monument to Eric Ferren, once mayor of Shamrock and known as "Mr. Shamrock". It reads:

ERIC FERREN
"Mr. Shamrock"
1904 - 1971
