Né à Lyon (France), Hector Guimard fut l’un des plus importants représentants de l’Art Nouveau, courant inspiré de la nature. En 1899, les responsables du métro parisien lui ont confié le mandat de réaliser les entrées du tout nouveau réseau de transport souterrain. Cet élément architectural datant des débuts du métro de Paris a été installé au square Victoria en 1967. Il a été complété et restauré en 2003, lors du réaménagement du square et de son intégration au Quartier international de Montréal. Il s’agit d’un don de la Régie autonome des transports parisiens (RATP) à la STM (Société des Transports de Montréal)

Born in Lyon, France, Hector Guimard was one of the most important figures of Art Nouveau, an aesthetic movement inspired by the forms of nature. In 1899, he was mandated to create the entranceways for the brand-new Paris métro system. This Art Nouveau-style architectural element, dating back to the beginning of the Paris métro, was installed in Square Victoria in 1967. It was completely restored in 2003 when the square was redesigned and integrated into the Quartier international de Montréal. It is a gift of the Régie autonome des transports parisiens (RATP) to the STM.
