On May 30 1875 a double drowning occurred in the Connecticut River. The victims, Linus A. Chase and David K. Millard, were both 21 years old. They drowned when the boat they were in overturned and are buried side by side in separate graves with identical style marble monuments with curved tops. The marker for Linus A. Chase is inscribed:
