[DE] "Das Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe) ist ein Warenhaus in Berlin mit einem gehobenen Sortiment und Luxuswaren, das von Adolf Jandorf gegründet und am 27. März 1907 eröffnet wurde. Es befindet sich in der Tauentzienstraße am Wittenbergplatz im Ortsteil Schöneberg und ist das bekannteste Warenhaus Deutschlands.
Im Laufe seiner wechselvollen Geschichte wurde das Kaufhaus des Westens viele Male aus- und umgebaut, siebenmal wechselte der Mutterkonzern (seit Juni 2015 die Central Group) und einmal brannte es im Zweiten Weltkrieg aus. Heute ist das KaDeWe mit 60.000 Quadratmetern Verkaufsfläche das größte Warenhaus Kontinentaleuropas. Eine besondere Attraktion ist seit Ende der 1920er Jahre die Feinkostabteilung, die sogenannte „Feinschmeckeretage“, nach einer Erweiterung ist sie seit 1978 die zweitgrößte Lebensmittelabteilung eines Warenhauses weltweit."

In the course of its eventful history, the Kaufhaus des Westens was extended and rebuilt many times, its parent company changed seven times (since June 2015 the Central Group) and once it burned out during the Second World War. Today KaDeWe is the largest department store in continental Europe with 60,000 square metres of sales area. A special attraction since the end of the 1920s has been the gourmet department, the so-called "Feinschmeckeretage" (gourmet floor). After an expansion in 1978, it became the second largest food department of a department store in the world."
