In Milton, along Canton Avenue, is the a World War I for those who served in the war.
The monument is located along the driveway to the Milton Town Hall, between the road and the First Congregational Church, east of the Milton Common.
The monument has a plaza around it, tall bushes behind it and low bushes in front. Benches flank the monument. The monument is a stone pillar with a bronze figure of a man, with his arm raised, bearing a torch. The man is draped in a loose sheet that extends over the stone behind him.
On the front of the stone pillar is the following text:
"1917 [Wreath] 1918
To You from Failing Hands
We Throw the Torch
Be Yours to Hold It High"
On each side are names of those who served and died.
The text in the front is from a poem, "Flanders Field," by "John McCrea." The statue was created by Daniel Chester French, who also designed the Lincoln Memorial statue in Washington, DC.
