In Milton, near the geographic center of town, is the Milton Centre Historic District, recognized in the National Register of Historic Places.

The district covers Canton Avenue from Thacher to Reedsdale Avenue. The following are noted (as described on the Milton Historical Commission web site or the nomination form for #88000428):

First Parish in Milton (Unitarian-Universalist): Was a meetinghouse built in 1787-8, it was used for the church (then a single body of the Congregational Church), but also was used for town government purposes. In In 1835, it was turned 90 degrees.

First Congregational Church: Was built in 1834 after the Congregational Church split with the First Parish (Unitarian Church). It stands on the opposite side of the common from the First Parish.

Hiram Tuell House, 488 Canton Avenue: Was built in 1877 in the Stick Style architecture. Elements of the original style are still present.

Parish House, 535 Canton Avenue: Was built in 1879 for the First Parish. It was originally located where the Children's Sunday School is now located.

Children's Church: Sits next to the First Parish Church and looks like a miniature replica of it.

Chemical Engine House (509 Canton Avenue): Built in 1881 and is Milton's oldest standing fire house. It was used by the water department for a while, but is now used again by the fire department.

Central Fire Station (515 Canton Avenue): Built in 1888, it has served as the main fire station for the town.

Milton Public Library - Central Branch (476 Canton Avenue): Built in 1902 in the Beaux-Arts Style. The building has since been added to, but does not intrude on the original design.

The Powder House: Built in 1811 across the street from the Common.
