Le phare (arrière) est l’un de deux phares jumeaux qui se dressent dans le parc Saint-Louis, secteur de loisirs municipal situé au bord de l’eau. Plus grand que son jumeau, le phare arrière se trouve sur une pelouse dans le parc. Le phare comprend une tour effilée aux proportions élancées, faite de métal peint en blanc, qui repose sur une base en béton. Le feu est protégé par une attrayante coupole décorative en métal à laquelle on accède par la plate-forme circulaire, en métal, qui est accentuée par des encorbellements. La tour est surmontée d’une seconde petite plate-forme prévue pour le matériel. La désignation se limite au tracé au sol du bâtiment.
La valeur du phare découle de ses belles qualités esthétiques et de sa conception fonctionnelle très efficace. Ce bâtiment aux proportions élégantes est un exemple extrêmement rare d’une tour circulaire en métal située ailleurs qu’à Terre-Neuve. L’un de deux phares jumeaux érigés à cet emplacement, il a été construit en employant les techniques de métallurgie mises au point au début du XXe siècle pour la construction navale et la chaudronnerie. Ces techniques consistaient à assembler des plaques d’acier légèrement courbes et à les riveter pour former un cône tronqué. On employait l’acier parce qu’il est résistant et facile d’entretien à condition d’être bien protégé contre la corrosion.

The Light Tower (Rear) is one of two identically designed towers in St. Louis Park, a municipal recreation space on the waterfront. Taller than its twin, the rear range tower is located in a grassy area of the park. It is a white-painted metal, tapered tower of slim proportions, set on a concrete base. An attractive, decorative metal cupola houses the light apparatus and is accessed by a circular, metal gallery platform accented by corbels. An additional small equipment platform crowns the tower. The designation is confined to the footprint of the building.
The Light Tower is valued for its good aesthetic and very good functional design. It has elegant proportions and is an extremely rare example of a circular metal tower outside of Newfoundland. One of two matching towers at the site, it was built using the metal-working techniques developed in the early part of the 20th century for shipbuilding and boiler-making. The techniques consist of assembling slightly curved steel plates and fastening them with rivets to form a truncated cone. Steel was used because it was resistant and easy to maintain, provided it was properly protected against corrosion.
