The Arizona National Scenic Trail begins in the Sonoran desert along the Mexico border. Traveling from south to north the trail transverses sky islands, basin and range topography, the Gila river and the Colorado river at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. It ends on the Kaibab Plateau on the Utah border. The Picket Post Trailhead is in Section 18. It is in the upper Sonoran desert region. The trailhead offers two wheel drive access, parking and space for horses. There is also a tent camping area. The elevation of the trailhead is 2400 feet.
