Yale is located in Payne County on Highway 51. A post office was first established 1.5 miles from the current town location in 1895 in a general store. In 1902, the town was relocated to the new railroad line. Oil was discovered nearby in September, 1913 and an oil boom began with the population soaring. By February 1915, 22,000,000 barrels of oil were in storage in Yale, and 14 oil refineries were active. The Yale-Drumright-Cushing Oilfield was one of the most prolific in the world. But alas, oil production soon dropped off, and with it the population of Yale. By 1920, there were 2600 residents. Today, the town has about 1200 residents. In the last few years, however, town leaders have begun promoting the town as a retirement haven. New housing is planned and the town sees a bright future.
City Hall is located in a one-story rock-faced building, adjacent to the fire department and the public library. The City offices are open Monday to Friday from 8:00-4:30. The municipal court meets monthly.
A bronze plaque on the building refers to it as The Skinner Building. The town has a population of about 1200 residents. It has a Mayor/City Manager form of government, with four City Commissioners.
