Two plaques on Parliament Street, Ramsey, record this as the site of the house where Philip Kermode was born on 21 March 1855. Philip Moore Callow Kermode went on to become a noted antiquarian and historian.
Auckland Terrace where Philip Kermode was born, today runs parallel with Parliament Street. The Terrace is set back from the main street and lies a little north. The fine Georgian Terrace to the west illustrates the alignment of Auckland Terrace. The modern building fills the block from Auckland lane to Parliament Street. It seems that the young Philip Kermode also lived on Tower Street a short distance from Auckland Terracce mentioned as reported on the iMuseum website.
In 1922 Philip Kermode became the first director of the newly established Manx Museum.
The inscriptions on the two plaques are as follows:
On the upper plaque:
"The Plaque below was saved from
the house that stood on this site."
