County of site: Etowah County
Location of site: Alford Bend Rd. & 6th St., Hokes Bluff
A tag renewal office has opened in Hokes Bluff.
"The office opened Monday in the Rufus Floyd Library at 3310 Alfords Bend Road, Etowah County Revenue Commissioner Linda Barrett-Vaughan said.
"The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"Barrett-Vaughan said the county is paying only for telephone service. Other costs are absorbed through the library, paid by the city of Hokes Bluff.
"She said one employee is working at the office and the location is available for tag renewals only. Titles and other operations must be done at the Etowah County Courthouse.
"Barrett-Vaughan said a new tag typically involves titles, so new tags cannot be done at the Hokes Bluff location.
'“This is something I’ve been working toward for three and a half years,” she said. “Thanks to the help of Mayor Gary Reeves, the Library Board and others, our search is complete.“
"A Hokes Bluff location was open inside Gregerson’s grocery store until 2003, when the store announced plans to close.
"Barrett-Vaughan wanted to reopen the Hokes Bluff location. “In opening the location in Hokes Bluff, I feel that it will reach a large area of taxpayers including Ball Play, Glencoe, Piedmont, even North Gadsden, making it more convenient than driving to the courthouse,” she said.
"A ribbon cutting is planned for 2 p.m. Jan. 30, Barrett-Vaughan said.
"Other satellite locations are open at Rainbow City Hall, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; Sardis City Hall, 8:30 through 4 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; and Walnut Grove Municipal Building at 5151 Walnut Grove Road, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday and Friday.
"All satellite offices are closed in November and December because there are no tag renewals in those months, Barrett-Vaughan said.
The phone number of the Hokes Bluff location is 256-485-1441." ~ The Gadsden Tomes, by Lisa Rogers Savage, January 14, 2014
