This church is fairly active, with a Facebook page and a nice website (see Associated Website, below). Both share a history of the church, noting that land was donated by settler James Harvey Bates in 1890, for use by the church and a school. Originally known as the Oak Grove Church of Christ, services were initially sporadic, with baptisms in Palo Pinto Creek, and summer revivals lasting up to two weeks. Circuit riders did the preaching until about 1895, when the church finally got a minister who did monthly services.

Eventually, with local school consolidations, the Lone Camp School moved southeast to Ward Mountain, bringing the yearly revival with it: Those who were unable to make the trip were brought in a cart driven by a local couple. With even more school consolidation, the school returned here to Lone Camp, along with the revival, and a tabernacle was used until necessity prompted the building of this sanctuary in 1948.
