The Birkenkpof is a hill of 511 m in elevation within the Stuttgart city limits. It's the highest point in Stuttgart.
Between 1953 and 1957 the hill was raised around 40 meters due to the deposit of 15,000,000 cubic meters of rubble cleared from the destroyed city of Stuttgart after the Second World War.
From the summit there's a wonderful panorama of Stuttgart and in clear weather one can see as far as the Schwabian Alb and the northern Black Forest. In 1953, a wooden cross was erected on the summit which was replaced by a steel one in 2003.
