The Victorian Free Classical style former Bank of New South Wales building on William Street was built in 1895 for the City Bank of Sydney on the site of the Carriers Arms Inn, where Edward Hargreaves announced in 1851 that Gold had been discovered at Ophir. The City Bank became part of the Bank of New South Wales which in turn became Westpac Bank
