From "The WPA Guide to Florida":
"GOODNO, 86 m. (27 alt., 20 pop.) a scattered community with cattle pens and chutes along the railroad tracks, was named for E.E. Goodno, cattleman from Kansas, who did much to improve Florida beef stock by importing Brahma bulls from India in the 1860's."
Today Goodno is nothing more than a ghost town, with a couple of remnants of its former standing. The railroad tracks are gone, all that is left is the faint image of the railroad grade that is camouflaged with overgrowth. Driving by no one would even notice that it once was a small community.
Just west of here in downtown LaBelle is the LaBelle Heritage Museum with photographs of the former community of Goodno. There is also a book about Goodno that can be found at the Barron Library near the river.
