The Amherst Cultural Council sponsored the Amherst’s Electrical Box Makeover Project that on September 15, 2018 added three new painted utility boxes to the downtown area of Amherst.
Kim Carlino is a prolific artist with a studio in nearby Easthampton, MA. She painted this utility box in her signature abstract style. Using a motif with which she has been experimenting and once described as "curiosity over fear". She used a palette of bright red, orange, and purple hues with outlines in black to create a mesmerizing three dimensional design featuring a wormlike pattern in the foreground invading a geometric design in the background.
