Long Description:

Text of the plaque:

The Grey Nuns of Montréal have earned a distinguished place among the country's Catholic religious congregations for the importance and excellent reputation of their health care, and of their charitable, educational and missionary institutions. Founded by Marguerite d'Youville in 1737 for the purpose of helping the poor, it was the first women's religious community in Canada to devote itself to the whole range of social works. They sent the first nuns to the West in 1844, and founded many sister communities in Canada and abroad.
