NRHP Nomination Form"Dunlap, former county judge and longtime president of Citizen's National Bank, erected one of the town's most impressive Queen Anne style residences. It stands at 1203 W. Main (Site No. 610).
The Queen Anne style was especially popular in Waxahachie, and the West End boasts several outstanding examples. The Dunlap-Simpson House (Site No. 610) with its asymmetrical plan and massing, corner turret, and variety of textures and details provides one of the city's premier illustrations of this locally popular style. Although the designer is unknown, the plans for the house were likely purchased from a pattern book, as was the case with other similar dwellings in the area.
Two-and-a-half-story frame dwelling with asymmetrical plan. Queen Anne detailing, and polygonal three-story tower. Built for Oscar E. Dunlap, civic and business leader and longtime president of Waxahachie National Bank."
