[EN] The Orphanage Bay owes its name to the establishment founded in 1880 by Brother Louis Antonio. The premises of the orphanage were later transformed into a dispensary for lepers, and then, at the beginning of the twentieth century, a place of welcome for Javanese immigrants who came to work on the mines.
From Port-Plaisance to Port du Sud, the Orphelinat bay offers a safe anchorage for pleasure boaters and a pleasant walk for the inhabitants of Nouméa. The transformation of the bay started with the creation of a roundabout instead of the anchor junction, and continued with the development of a pedestrian promenade lined with a bike lane, lined a lawn and decorated with a deck, plantations and benches. The latest Nouméennes walk today allows you to walk along the sea for 300 m, on foot, by bike, rollerblading or strollers, while enjoying the landscaping.
