This U.S. Army Triangulation Station disk is set near the summit of French Peak, the highest point near French Lake in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. This disk is unusual in that it is not stamped in any way; all of the fields for date, location and identification have been left blank. The disk does not appear in the NGS database.
To reach the disk, be ready for about a two mile round trip from the parking area and trailhead. It is a relatively easy trek; you can take established trails and game trails nearly all the way to the summit. Note that the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is home to potentially dangerous wildlife, including elk, free-range longhorns and buffalo, and venomous snakes.
