The former Bathurst Post Office which faces Russell St was constructed in 1877 as the left wing of the Courthouse complex while the right hand wing housed the Telegraph Office, they were both built 3 years prior to the couthouse being built. The two storey building is now occupied by the District Historical Society Museum. The Post Office occupied this building from 1877 until the present Post Office was opened in 1972
