EN: This wooden cross stands south of Lalden at the driveway to the bridge over the Rhone and the railway line.
The cross is entirely made of wood, also the Jesus figure, the INRI sign and a sign saying: "In memory of the victims of the accidents on the railroad crossing".
What this meant exactly, I could not find out. Apparently, the predecessor bridge was less high and the road crossed the railroad line at ground level, so that it often came to incidents. The current bridge was built in 1976.
DE: Dieses Holzkreuz steht südlich von Lalden an der Auffahrt zur Brücke über die Rhone und die Eisenbahnlinie.
Das Kreuz ist ganz aus Holz, auch die Jesusfigur, das INRI-Schild und ein Schild mit der Aufschrift: "Zum Gedenken an die auf dem Bahnübergang verunglückten".
Was damit genau gemeint ist, konnte ich nicht herausfinden. Offenbar war die Vorgängerbrücke weniger hoch und die Strasse querte die Eisenbahnline ebenerdig, so dass es wohl öfters zu Zwischenfällen kam. Die heutige Brücke wurde 1976 erbaut.
