Wikipedia also explains that the name of the town comes from the local Nharrungura Clan of indigenous Aborigines, meaning 'Frill-neck Lizard'.

The 2016 census came in at 3,746 for the town of Narrandera, but there is significant surrounds. It is about 550 km WSW of Sydney, and 430 km NE of Melbourne. The township developed in early 1860's, being proclaimed a town /Borough in 1885.

The town is by the Murrumbidgiee River (a major irrigation contributor), at the junction of the Newell, and the Sturt Highways. The sign appropriately shows that Narrandera is known as the 'Town of Trees'. [Some info from Wikipedia: (visit link) ]
