Pakse ('Pack-say') is one of the larger towns of southern Laos. It is situated on the bank of the Mekong River. On the western edge of the town is the Xe Don River, which winds its way southwards to join with the Mekong.

On the western side of the confluence is a small Buddhist temple area. This is the location of the waymark. The temple gathers crowds of locals who come for the cool afternoon air and a chance to take selfies. To reach the temple follow the bridge over the Xe Don and then turn left, just over a kilometre from the town centre.
