There was a community called "Brushy" just southwest of here, active during the 1860s, and this cemetery is alternately called "Brushy Cemetery" due to its use by that community. Rough Creek itself originates in nearby Erath County, winding its way northeastward for about nine miles to its mouth on the Paluxy River in Somervell County.
