EN: This hand-written sign is located just north of the village center of Saas-Grund on a small square next to the main street. It commemorates the catastrophe of April 3, 1849, when 19 people were killed by an avalanche in Saas-Grund. The avalanche destroyed six residential buildings and around 30 other buildings in the village. Other areas of the Saas Valley were also badly affected.
The text: "Oh my dear friend, stay a little quiet here
19 people found their final destination here
At 11 o'clock in the night, their souls were brought before the strict God's judgment
To be sure in this house they all believed
When the death by the avalanche robbed her life
O man be always ready
For no one knows the hour and time when God calls us to eternity
The 3rd of April 1849"
DE: Dieses handbeschriebene Schild steht etwas nördlich des Dorfzentrums von Saas-Grund an einem kleinen Platz neben der Hautpstrasse. Es erinnert an die Katastrophe von von 3. April 1849, als in Saas-Grund 19 Menschen von einer Lawine getötet wurden. Die Lawine zerstörte sechs Wohnhäuser und rund 30 andere Gebäude im Dorf. Auch andere Gebiete des Saastales wurden stark in Mitleidenschaft gezogen.
Der Text: "Ach lieber Freund halt hier ein wenig still
hier fanden 19 Personen ihr Endes Ziel
Um 11 Uhr in der Nacht wurden ihre Seelen vor das strenge Gottes Gericht gebracht
In diesem Hause sicher zu sein das haben alle geglaubt
Da hat der Tod durch die Lawine ihr Leben beraubt
O Mensch sei allezeit bereit
Denn niemand weisz die Stund und Zeit wann uns Gott beruft zur Ewigkeit
Den 3ten April 1849"
