Ubon Ratchathani is a major city in north-east Thailand, on the Laos-Thai border, and the end of the north-eastern rail line. The station for this distant outpost (500 long kilometres from Bangkok) is a traditional Thai station, a little larger than most, with a train parking area, left luggage, ticket counters, helpful staff, and a casual demeanor.
