In Westwood, in the old portion of Westwood Cemetery, is this grave set of markers for Deacon Ichabod Gay, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War.
The cemetery, old portion, is located at the intersection of High Street and Nahatan Street, on the south east corner. The older section is on the High Street of the cemetery.
The marker is located in an area fenced in with iron rod railing. There is a light stone obelisk in the center. There are several names listed. The pertinent text is as follows:
"Ichabod Gay
died Dec. 14, 1814
Aet. 91."
At the base is a pair of American flags (at the time of visit). Toward the front-left of the fenced in area is a marker from the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) with this text:
"Ichabod Gay
1723-1814
Aet. 91."
Findagrave.com for Ichabod Gay states that he married Elizabeth King Gay. Then he married Mary Richards. Captain William Gay, who also served during the American Revolutionary War, was a son of his.
