The Pont Lake was built between 1878 and 1882 on the Armançon River to support the low water mark of the Canal de Bourgogne, completed in 1832. The dam was built in 1882 and the lake was built in 1883.
The lake is a thick snake in the waters of the Armançon which, 6 km long and 133 m wide, covers no less than 80 ha, with an average depth of 21 m. The maximum capacity of its reservoir is 6.1 million m3, and that of its catchment area of 289 km2. The dam has a height of 24 m.
The lake has, first of all, retained its original role of supplying water to the Canal de Bourgogne in water, especially during the summer, and containing the surplus water of the Armançon, during the spring floods.
It allows then, to sixty communes to be fed by up to 6,000 m3 of drinking water per day, via the pumping station of Pont-et-Massène, built in 1981, and three membrane filtration lines , built in 2002 and 2007, by the Intercommunal Syndicate of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation (SIAEPA) of Semur-en-Auxois.
The lake and its banks serve, finally, of sports and leisure area, where are practiced, under regulation, walking, mushroom picking, snail gathering, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, fishing , bathing (supervised), pedalo, canoeing, or rowing.
A pedestrian circuit, around the lake (12 km), a large car park and a campsite (with restaurant and toilets) located in the town of Pont-et-Massène, were developed by the community of Sinémurien to promote the development of tourism activities on site. "

Le lac de Pont est réalisé, entre 1878 et 1882, sur la rivière Armançon, afin de servir de soutien à l'étiage du Canal de Bourgogne, achevé en 1832. Le barrage est édifié en 1882 et le lac mis en eau en 1883.
Le lac se présente comme un épais serpentement des eaux de l'Armançon qui, long de 6 km et large de 133 m de large, couvre pas moins de 80 ha, sur un profondeur moyenne de 21 m. La capacité maximale de son réservoir est de 6,1 millions de m3, et celle de son bassin versant de 289 km2 . Le barrage a une hauteur de 24 m.
Le lac a, tout d'abord, conservé son rôle initial d'alimentation en eau du Canal de Bourgogne en eau, notamment durant la période estivale, et de contenance du surplus d'eau de l'Armançon, lors des crues printanières.
Il permet, ensuite, à une soixantaine de communes d'être alimentée par jusqu'à 6 000 m3 d'eau potable par jour, via la station de pompage de Pont-et-Massène, construite en 1981, et trois lignes de filtration membranaire, construites en 2002 et 2007, par le Syndicat Intercommunal d'Adduction d'Eau Potable et de l'Assainissement (SIAEPA) de Semur-en-Auxois.
Le lac et ses berges servent, enfin, d'aire de sports et loisirs, où se pratiquent, sous réglementation, la marche, la cueillette de champignons, le ramassage d'escargots, le VTT, l'équitation, la varappe, la pêche, la baignade (surveillée), le pédalo, le canoë-kayak, ou l'aviron.
Un circuit pédestre, faisant le tour du lac (12 km), un vaste parking et un camping (avec restaurant et sanitaires) situés sur la commune de Pont-et-Massène, ont été aménagés par la communauté de communes du Sinémurien afin de favoriser le développement des activités touristiques sur place."
