"AMORY, Miss. (WTVA) - A place many in the city of Amory sought out during severe weather will no longer be open to the public.
"For years, many people in the city sought out storm safety in the basement of City Hall. On Wednesday, the city posted to its Facebook page with a list of updated storm shelter locations.
"And the basement was not on the list.
'"This area has never been designated as a storm shelter by local emergency management authorities," stated the city. "The City of Amory has been advised to direct people elsewhere to safer areas that can withhold severe weather. For the safety and security of our citizens, City Hall will be locked when not occupied."
"There are five locations in the city where community shelters are located:
• West Amory Community Center – 713 111th Street, two shelters
• East Amory Community Center – 1200 Crump Boulevard, two shelters
• Behind Celebration Station Playground – Concord Avenue, two shelters
• Gilmore Foundation – 203 Gilmore Drive, one ground storm shelter
• Amory Police Department – two shelters"
